For several years predictivemaintenance has been gainingpopularity as a method for preventing costly and time-consumingmachine breakdowns. Vibration analysis is the cornerstone ofpredictive maintenance programs, and the equations for calculatingexpected vibration frequencies for bearings and toothed gear setsare widely available. Cycloidal reducers present a special case dueto the nature of their reduction mechanism. This paper willdescribe a method for utilizing vibration analysis in order toidentify a defective cycloidal ring gear housing, disc, andeccentric bearing.
