In rating the bending strength of the hobbed gear teeth, thecritical point located with in the root fillet, where the fractureoccurs due to the tensile bending stress, is necessary to bedetermined Hofer, Lewis, Niemann, and Colboume propose theirmethods to find this point approximately, in which a numericaliteration method is needed to solve nonlinear onevariable equationsestablished to find their critical points. This paper presentsequations expressed easily and in a similar way for finding thesefour critical points as well as the general gear tooth profileequations derived based on the vector analysis method. Theseequations are assuredly solved by the finite differenceNewton-Raphson iteration algorithm. Position comparison of theirpoints was achieved with computer-aided graphical and numericaloutput.
