This paper describes a developed experimental test stand tomeasure transmission error in fine-pitch gears. The paperintroduces the importance of transmission eror in officeequipment that have uniform motion requirements. Transmission erroris computed by measuring the phase difference between thedriver shaft and the driven shaft using optical encoders. The teststand has a variable operating center distance and can apply shaftallignment errors in both parallel and skew directions. Resultsfrom the test stand show the effect of gear elemental errors, transmitted load, and shaft misalignment on transmission mor infine-pitch piastic gears.
