An experimental and analytical study of spiral bevel gearsoperating in an aerospace environment has been performed. Testswere conducted within a closed loop test stand at 537 kW (720 hp)and 14400 rpm. The effects of various operating conditions onspiral bevel gear steady state and transient temperature arepresented. A three-dimensional analysis of the thermal behavior wasconducted using a nonlinear finite element analysis computer code.The analysis was compared to the experimental results. The resultsagreed within 10 percent.
