Worm gear contact stresses are the major contributor to wormgear wear and durability failures. In this paper, a combination ofloaded tests, coordinate measurements, surface reverse engineeringand a special finite element method is employed to study the effectof break-in wear on meshing contact between the mating surfaces ofworm gearing parts. Three different wheel tooth geometries areinvestigated in this paper.
