High speed machining using carbides has been known for somedecades for milling and turning operations. Improvements in carbidegrades and sintering processes in combination with new coatingmethods and the use of CNC machines has lead to a significantly newtrend in cutting bevel gears. This paper discusses bevel gear drycutting methods with surface cutting speeds of 1000 ft./min. forcontinuous face hobbing and plunge cutting single index facemilling.
