SCOPE AND CLASSES
This specification defines the requirements for alloy steelexternally threaded fasteners procured under part numbers lisied ondrawings which refer to this specification. Typically thesefasteners are used for tension, shear, and tension-fatigueapplications where 160 KSI Ftu and 95 KSI Fsu is desired with asewice temperature capability to 450° F.
Requirements stipulated in purchase contracts, purchase orders,part standards andlor part drawings shall take precedence overrequirements stated herein. Receiving contractors may reject anytot which does not conform.
The specification includes mechanical property requirements forthree classes of fastenen, Types I, II and Ill, and three classesof thread lengths Long Thread, Mid thread and Short Thread.
Type I – Tension head (hex, double hex, etc.) without a recessdrive ([email protected] AS6603-6620)
Type II – 700″ Full flush head, long or short thread (¡.e. NAS1580A)
Pan head, long or short thread (i.@N. ASq578A)
Fillister head, long or short thread (¡.e. NASI 12î-1128)
Full thread (threaded to the head} ([email protected] ASt801)
Type 111 – 100″ Reduced flush head, long or short thread (Le.NAS15811
Workmanship of fasteners shall ke in conformance with aircraflfastener manufacturing proceses.
Recommendations for improvements or corrections to thisspecification should be directed to an NASC representative of 8using company or to the Executive Secretary of the NationalAerospace Standards Committee.
Specifications listed herein, of the issue in effect on date ofinquiry, are a part of this specification to the extent indicated.In the case of conflict, the requirements herein shall takeprecedence.
Should 8 using company require qualification testing for anyproduct specifying this document, a report for the specific productand product diameter shall be generated by the product manufacturerfrom product of sufficient shank and thread length to yieldinspection and test data for all requirements in TABLE I includingtests categorized as not mandatory. Inspection and test data shallbe generated in accordance with the prescribed test methods,utilizing the sampling plan specified for a twenty-five (25) piecemanufacturing lot and submitted by the product manufacturer to theproduct user.
Unless otherwise specified, part inverrtory manufactured toprevious revisions of the applicable drawing or specification maybe procured and used until stock is depleted.
