Purpose: This document is intended as a top-level design guidefor managing the development and maintenance of avionics software.It provides guidance for the design and implementation of avionicssoftware for traditional ARINC 700-Series equipment and IntegratedModular Avionics (IMA). This document emphasizes the airline desirefor user-modifiable software.
ARINC Report 652 represents the consensus of the airlines,airframe manufacturers and avionics suppliers. It is conceptual innature and covers broad subjects of cost objectives, softwaremanagement, software design, software modification, softwarere-use, documentation and certification. In doing so, the documentattempts to be as inclusive as possible, while remaining generalenough to be applicable to new and developing technologies. Itincludes both software management philosophy and recommendedpractices. It establishes a starting point for the implementationof avionics software.
