This Report includes guidelines to be considered as part of theelectronic packaging design task. The applicability of anyparticular section in this Report is dependent upon the environmentin which the avionic systems, subsystems, and cables arelocated.

The applicability of these guidelines to the RTCA DO-160 testconditions identified in ARINC Specification 650 can be determinedby reference to the Environmental Requirements/Guidance CrossReference Matrix shown in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 identifies sections of RTCA DO-160 that define boththe physical and electromagnetic environmental conditions forelectronic equipment installed within the generic FAR/JAR Part 25metallic aircraft. (twin-engined, wing-mounted turbojet).

The generic Part 25 aircraft type is divided into thirteenenvironmental areas encompassing subsidiary zones in order toaddress the environmental conditions defined within RTCA DO-160.Conditions applicable to these areas and subsidiary zones forspecific aircraft are also detailed in the airframe manufacturerspecifications. Although there will possibly be more benign zoneswithin each area, equipment designs should take into account theoverall environmental conditions for the encompassing area. Themost current issue of any applicable standard, especially FAR/JARPart 25 and RTCA DO-160 apply.
