Purpose of this Characteristic: This document sets forth thebasic requirements for an Attitude and Heading Reference System(AHRS) specifically designed for installation in commercialtransport-type aircraft.
COMMENTARY: Equipment described by this document is intended toprovide significant improvement over conventional gyros at modestcost. Design of this equipment places major emphasis on equipmentsimplicity and low cost rather than the ultimate performanceassociated with more complex systems and is expected to exploit thelatest technology such as “strap down” and “solid state”construction. The outputs from the base line system are limited tomagnetic heading, attitude, body rates and acceleration data. Thisis a relatively simple system as opposed to the more complex 704IRS.
