Purpose: This document sets forth the desired characteristics ofa new generation VOR receiver intended for installation in alltypes of commercial transport aircraft. The intent of this documentis to provide general and specific design guidance for thedevelopment and installation of a VOR receiver primarily forairline use. It will describe the desired operational capability ofthe equipment and the standards necessary to ensureinterchangeability.
Equipment manufacturers should note that this document aims toencourage them to produce maintenance-free, high performanceequipment rather than that of minimum weight and dimensions. Theyare at liberty to accomplish this objective by means of designtechniques they consider to be the most appropriate, as theirairline customers are interested primarily in the end result ratherthan the means employed to achieve it.
