Purpose of This Document
This Characteristic sets forth user specifications for a secondgeneration Full-Format Printer intended for use on commercialtransport aircraft. The printer is capable of printing highresolution alphanumeric, semi-graphic and graphic images on papermeasuring up to eight and onehalf inches in width. The intent ofthis document is to provide general and specific design guidancefor the development of the printer. It describes the desiredoperational capabilities of the printer and the standards necessaryto ensure interchangeability.
This document encourages manufacturers to producemaintenance-free, high performance equipment rather than that ofminimum weight and size. They are at liberty to accomplish thisobjective by the means that they consider to be most appropriate.Materials selected should be of the best commercial quality and bereadily available. Microelectronics and other technologies withproven reliability should be applied to the maximum extentpossible. Airline users are interested primarily in the finalproduct rather than the means employed to achieve it.
