This document defines digital video interface standards for alltypes of flight deck video. It represents the consensus view ofairlines, airframe manufacturers, avionic suppliers, and others whoparticipated in the development of this standard. This document isbased on ANSI Fibre Channel Audio Video (FC-AV) defined by ANSIINCITS 356-2002.
Digital video transfer is the preferred method onboard aircraftfor displaying both low data rate (sensor) and high data rateapplications (image presentation). This standard defines a videointerface protocol which can be used in avionics systems betweenvideo capture, image processing, computer graphics image generatingequipment, and displays requiring the transmission of real-timevideo signals onboard aircraft.
This standard will minimize avionics system cost and aircraftmaintenance costs by providing a limited number of standard videointerfaces adapted to avionics needs. It will optimizeinterchangeability, maintainability, test equipment, etc. It willsupport a variety of development activities including CockpitDisplay Systems (CDS), Head-Up Display (HUD), and video recording.Throughout this document, Avionics Digital Video Bus will bereferred to simply as ADVB.
