Purpose and Scope
ARINC Specification 833 describes a system which provideswireless communication channels in the cabin. This system mayreduce the installation and integration effort of multiplestand-alone wireless systems. In addition, it specifies theinterface between multiple wireless systems to the UniversalWireless Distribution System (UWDS). Compliance with this standardenables common wireless distribution of disparate wireless systemsignals.
The system includes the following components:
• RF-Combiner unit(s)
• Cabin broadband antenna(e)
ARINC Specification 833 addresses the interfaces to the UWDS,RF-Combiner Unit and the broadband antenna.
The UWDS standard includes the physical interfaces, connectors, space envelopes, equipment mounting, component co-locationrequirements, antenna characteristics, frequency range, and powerrequirements. Design guidelines are included as far as they impactthe interfaces and installation of cabin equipment on board theaircraft.
The system specified in this document may be designed to supportwireless passenger and crew/flight deck applications in theaircraft cabin, flight deck, and cargo area. This specificationdescribes a system that should be designed for maximumfunctionality and scalability.
