This regulation applies to the Active Services and the ReserveComponents of the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. Thispublication is not applicable during mobilization.
Purpose
The purpose of the Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP) is toensure timely and accurate oil support and other fluidwettedcomponent analysis support to Army, Navy, and Air Force customersthrough the strategic location of all oil analysis laboratories andthrough the standardization of procedures, data elements,analytical instrumentation, and diagnostic techniques. Determine the internal condition of aeronautical andnon-aeronautical engines, transmissions, and gearboxes, and theiroil-wetted components through the analysis of used lubricatingoils, grease, and fluids. Its goal is flight safety, enhancedequipment readiness, reduced maintenance costs, and the extensionof component life.
Determine the suitability of lubricants and fluids for continueduse, resulting in savings and early detection of harmful conditionsthat, if not corrected, could promote premature componentfailure.
