This standard specifies a test method using samples with cross sections typical of treated commodities and thus evaluates the performance of the treatment method as well as the preservative. It is suitable for testing the ability of new or modified preservatives to be effective as full-cross-section-, shell- or surface-treatments. This test method is intended to be a commodity test, not a preservative screening test and is analogous to AWPA E8, The Standard Method of Field Test with Posts used for ground-contact testing. However, it may also be used to provide information for standardization of protection treatments. The method simulates a sill plate on a concrete foundation where the formwork has been left in place providing a connection to the soil. This is considered to be a worst-case condition for framing lumber designed to be protected from liquid water (UC2).
