This specification prescribes requirements for theclassification of covered copper and copper-alloy electrodes forshielded metal arc welding. It includes compositions in which thecopper content exceeds that of any other element.1

Safety and health information is available fromother sources, including, but not limited to, ANSI Z49.1,Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes, andapplicable federal and state regulations.
This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units andthe International System of Units (SI). The measurements are notexact equivalents; therefore, each system must be usedindependently of the other without combining in any way whenreferring to material properties. The specification with thedesignation A5.6 uses U.S. Customary Units. The specification A5.6Muses SI Units. The latter are shown within brackets [ ] or inappropriate columns in tables and figures. Standard dimensionsbased on either system may be used for sizing of filler metal orpackaging or both under A5.6 or A5.6M specifications.
