This specification prescribes requirements for theclassification of filler metals for brazing and braze welding. Itincludes filler metals for brazing with or without a flux and inall protective atmospheres for various applications, includingthose for vacuum service.1 The prefix “RB” indicates that thefiller metal is suitable for use both as brazing rod for brazewelding and as a brazing filler metal.

This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units andthe International System of Units (SI). The measurements are notexact equivalents; therefore, each system must be usedindependently of the other without combining in any way whenreferring to material properties. The specification with thedesignation A5.8 uses U.S. Customary Units. The specification A5.8Muses SI Units. The latter are shown within brackets [ ] or inappropriate columns in tables and figures. Standard dimensionsbased on either system may be used for sizing of filler metal orpackaging or both under A5.8 or A5.8M specifications.
