This specification provides the requirements for qualificationof soldering procedure specifications. This specification alsoprovides requirements for the performance qualification ofsolderers and soldering operators and is intended for use wherereferenced by a product standard or contract document.

Employers shall be responsible for the soldering done by theirorganization, including the use of qualified soldering procedures,qualified solderers, and qualified soldering operators. It is theEmployer’s responsibility to assure that soldering procedurespecifications meet any additional requirements of the ReferencingDocument. Each Employer shall maintain the applicable solderingprocedure specifications, soldering procedure qualificationrecords, and soldering performance qualification records.

When not otherwise specified by the Referencing Document, theedition of the specification to be used shall be established inaccordance with the following:

(1) Editions may be used at any time after the effective date ofissue.

(2) Latest edition of this document should be used for newcontracts.

(3) Editions established by contract date may be used during theentire term of the contract, or the provisions of later editionsmay be used when agreed upon by the contracting parties.

This document is intended primarily for use with the followingsoldering processes:

(1) Torch soldering (TS)

(2) Furnace soldering (FS)

(3) Induction soldering (IS)

(4) Resistance soldering (RS)

(5) Dip soldering (DS)

(6) Iron soldering (INS)

(7) Infrared soldering (IRS)

This standard makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and theInternational System of Units (SI). The latter are shown withbrackets ([ ]) or in appropriate columns in tables and figures. Themeasurements may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each systemmust be used independently.

Safety and health issues and concerns are beyond the scope ofthis standard and therefore are not fully addressed herein. Safetyand health information is available from other sources, including,but not limited to, ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting, andAllied Processes, and applicable federal, state, and localregulations.
