General. This specification establishes therequirements for qualification of radiographic interpreters. Itdescribes how these personnel shall be qualified, establishestraining requirements, defines experience requirements, andestablishes areas and levels of knowledge required to perform thefunctions related to radiographic interpretation.
Training. The employer shall be responsible forproviding job-specific training and/or orientation of theradiographic interpreter to ensure his/her understanding of thespecial requirements of the employer.
Personal Capabilities. It shall be theresponsibility of the employer to determine if the radiographicinterpreter is physically and mentally capable of performing theduties involved in the work assignment. Visual acuity requirementsare specified in this specification. Mental capabilities shallinclude, but not be limited to, an ability to render fair andunbiased judgment and communicate said judgments to others in amanner which is helpful and well understood.
Rights of Employers. This specification isintended to supplement the requirements of an employer, standard,or other documents and shall not be construed as a preemption ofthe employer’s rights and responsibilities for the quality of workprovided under contract to others.
Terminology. As used in this specification, theword shall denotes a requirement; theword should denotes a guideline; and theword may denotes a choice.
Safety and Health. Some safety and healthissues may be beyond the scope of this standard and therefore notbe fully addressed by this standard. Users of this standard shouldconsult ANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting, and AlliedProcesses, applicable federal, state, and local regulations andother relevant documents concerning safety and health issues notaddressed herein.
