This document applies to the requirements and procedures necessary to train personnel to allow them to safely and effectively apply industrial robots to the task of arc welding. The recommended training applies to all personnel, regardless of their specific job duties. The training is recommended for individuals who design, integrate, install, and use industrial welding robotic and automatic systems. The intent of this document is to identify the recommended knowledge for these individuals. The processes included for consideration in this document are gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux cored arc welding (FCAW). Pertinent parts may address additional welding processes.
Robotic arc welding systems consist of a robot arm, positioner, power source, arc welding torch and accessories, electrode feeding system, dereeling system, shielding gas delivery system, welding circuit, shielding and communication control, and grounding system. There may be other accessories that are outside the scope of this document, such as safety devices and monitoring, weld joint-tracking, and vision systems. A typical system is illustrated in Figure 1.
