This standard establishes the minimum requirements forqualification and certification as a SENSE Level I—Entry Welderwith the American Welding Society.
This standard specifies practical knowledge and performancetests that require a minimum level of reading, computational, andmanual skills to successfully complete.
All individuals meeting the specified performance criteria at afacility that is a training organization will be listed in the AWSdatabase of SENSE Entry Welders.
Organizations that are not training organizations may use thisstandard, but individuals they instruct will not be listed in theAWS database of SENSE Entry Welders.
Although a written test including questions on safety isrequired by this standard, this standard is not intended to addresssafety and health. Safety and health requirements are provided inANSI Z49.1, Safety in Welding, Cutting, and AlliedProcesses, other safety and health standards, and federal,state, and local government regulations. The responsibility forsafety is primarily with the welder, the training organizationduring training and testing, and afterwards, with the employer.
