This standard establishes the test procedures and test sequencesfor evaluating compliant contact terminations. The test sequencesdefined herein shall be considered generic. Unless otherwisespecified in the referencing document, this standard applies to thefollowing types of contacts with compliant contactterminations.
— Contacts that are supplied as separate items, but may beinserted into a housing,
— free standing contacts that are not used in ahousing.
Content
This standard shall not be substituted for any standard definingqualification of connectors or sockets. This document does notaddress other performance characteristics relative to connectors orsockets. Qualification testing described herein is specifically forthe termination portion of a contact.
The qualification testing established herein is specifically forthe compliant contact termination. It includes the assessment ofthe electrical characteristics between the compliant section andthe plated-thru-hole of the test board. It also assesses themechanical characteristics (insertion and retention forces) and theplated thru hole integrity (repair and conditioning) when thistermination style is used. Figure 1 indicates when these testsshall be performed.
