This standard applies to several different categories ofelectrostatic protective packaging materials. These packagingmaterials may possess certain electrostatic properties such as toprevent triboelectric charging (antistatic), to dissipate a chargeeither by surface or volume conduction, or to act as a shieldagainst electrostatic fields. These electrostatic properties areindependent (not mutually exclusive). The form or shape in whichthese materials are used is unrestricted. Also, a fabricatedproduct may possess more than one of the above electrostaticproperties. The appropriate electrostatic properties a productshould have, shall be determined by the user’s requirements.Electromagnetic protective packaging is not addressed in thisdocument.
