This specification defines the terminology and physicalrequirements for the mating interface and physical characteristicsof the Mini Multilane Connector. The dimensions specified apply tothe various sizes of the family, which covers a variety of circuitsizes, see EIA-975 (Specification for Mini Multilane 4X UnshieldedReceptacle Shell and Plug Connectors) and EIA-976 (Specificationfor Mini Multilane 4X Shielded Receptacle Shell and PlugConnectors).
Fibre Channel, SAS, and other standards define requirements onthe characteristic impedance and ability to transmit multi-gigabitsignals for cable assemblies and backplanes. When this connector isused in such an interconnect, it is subject to theserequirements.
The SFF Committee activities support the requirements of thestorage industry, and it is involved with several standards.
