Newly revised, this comprehensive reference book addresses the properties, safety considerations, equipment, and regulatory requirements for properly transporting, handling, and using compressed gases and compressed gas containers. Written in clear, concise language, this handbook is both a comprehensive overview and a source reference for supplementary data concerning every aspect of handling gases in compressed, liquefied, and cryogenic form.
The Fourth edition gives information relating to current standards from the various standards developing organizations in the field as well as the latest shipping requirements, and storage and handling procedures and uses. The latest changes in DOT regulations (HM-206, HM-215A, HM-215B) have been incorporated, and exposure limits set by ACGIH and OSHA have been reviewed and updated. With increased emphasis on industrial gases as a global industry, all values have been presented in SI as well as US units. US and Canadian requirements or regulations are cited.
While not intended as a substitute for specific CGA publications and standards, the Handbook of Compressed Gases provides a complete overview of compressed gases in one volume. Much of this information is difficult to find elsewhere.
The text is arranged in three parts. The eleven chapters in Part I provide the basic information on gas properties, safety procedures, regulations, containers, pressure relief devices, valves, bulk containers and their shipment, marking and labeling containers, and cleaning for oxygen service. Part II contains monographs covering 45 individual gases or gas groups produced in commercial quantities, ranging from liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs) to gases used in the electronics industry. Part IV includes a glossary, technical information, and appendices listing relevant state regulatory agencies.
