The procedural needs of various users are different. Thestandard recognizes these needs, when they are consistent with theobjectives of the standard, by providing alternative symbolismmethods. A number of examples are provided for adding informationor simplifying the symbolism, as desired.
Process equipment symbols are not part of this standard, but areincluded only to illustrate applications of instrumentationsymbols.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to establish a uniform means ofdesignating instruments and instrumentation systems used formeasurement and control. To this end, a designation system thatincludes symbols and an identification code is presented.
