ISA 60079-31

SAME AS UL 60079-31

This standard is applicable to electrical equipmentprotected by enclosure and surface temperature limitation for usein explosive dust atmospheres. It specifies requirements fordesign, construction and testing of electrical equipment and ExComponents.

This standard supplements and modifies the general requirementsof UL 60079-0. Where a requirement of this standardconflicts with a requirement of UL 60079-0, the requirementof this standard takes precedence.

This standard does not apply to dusts of explosives, which donot require atmospheric oxygen for combustion, or to pyrophoricsubstances.

This standard does not apply to electrical equipment or ExComponents intended for use in underground parts of mines as wellas those parts of surface installations of such mines endangered byfiredamp and/or combustible dust.

This standard does not take account of any risk due to anemission of flammable or toxic gas from the dust.

Consideration of additional protective measures is requiredwhere the application of electrical equipment is in atmospheres,which can contain combustible dust as well as explosive gas,whether simultaneously or separately.

Where the electrical equipment has to meet other environmentalconditions, for example, protection against ingress of water andresistance to corrosion, additional measures can be necessary. Themeasures used should not adversely affect the integrity of theenclosure.

Where references are made to other IEC 60079 standards, thereferenced requirements found in these standards apply as modifiedby any applicable U.S. National Differences.
