This standard covers temperature and humidity environmentalconditions for industrial process measurement and controlequipment. Specifications for other environmental conditions arebeyond the scope of this standard.
This standard establishes temperature and humidity classes forfixed (non-mobile) installations during normal operation(nonemergency conditions) or during transportation and storage.
The classes of temperature and humidity conditions stated inthis standard are suitable for use in activities related to processinstrumentation, including design, manufacturing, sales, installation, test, use, and maintenance. These classes may also beused as a guide when establishing requirements for environmentalcontrol of buildings or other protective housings for industrialprocess measurement and control systems.
These classifications pertain only to the environment externalto the equipment which may affect the equipment externally orinternally.
The effects of environmental conditions on safety, comfort, andperformance of operating and maintenance personnel are notconsidered in this standard.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to establish uniformclassifications of temperature and humidity conditions forindustrial process measurement and control systems. This documentis one of a series of standards on environmental conditions forprocess measurement and control systems.
