CEN EN-GJL-150 (5.1200) is a low-tensile-strength gray cast iron that has a tensile strength of 150–250 MPa (22–36 ksi), when determined on test pieces machined from separately cast, 30 mm (1.2 in.) diameter test bars. It is useful in situations where high thermal conductivity, damping capacity, and machinability are important, but where tensile strength and hardness are not the crucial properties in service. The high carbon content of this material also imparts good lubricated bearing properties, provided that the environment does not include abrasive debris that can score and wear the soft matrix.
