These requirements apply to flexible, flex-to-install, rigid, and multilayer rigid flex composite interconnect constructions with and without stiffener and adhesivematerials as flexible materials interconnect constructions (FMIC’s) for use as components in devices or appliances. Compliance with these requirements does notindicate the product is acceptable for use as a component of an end product without further investigation.
The singlelayer and multilayer, and flexible, flex-to-install, and rigid interconnect constructions addressed by these requirements consist of conductors affixed to basematerial, with mid-board interconnections, and cover layer materials.
These requirements are not intended to address flexible materials or constructions in which the conductors are parallel to each other, completely covered by coverlayer material with only point-to-point end connections.
The suitability of additional stiffener and adhesive materials, not evaluated in accordance with the Stiffener bond strength test, Section , and Flammability tests,Section , are subject to the applicable end-use product construction and performance requirements.
A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and thatinvolves a risk of fire or of electric shock or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to maintainthe level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict withspecific requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance withthe methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this standard.
