Intent.(Footnote 1) The intent of this test is to mechanicallystress the interconnecting-device-to-fiber-optic-cable-joint intension. The results of this test provide an indication as to therelative strength of the cable-to-interconnecting device joint andmay also indicate degradation resulting from prior environmentalexposure.
Failure Modes. Potential failure modes for this test include, but arenot limited to:
a. Cable Jacket Damage,
b. Fiber breakage or damage,
c. Cable clamp failure,
d. Cable pull out,
e. Loss of optical continuity,
f. Failure of fiber-terminus relative to interconnecting device.
g. Cable seal damage,
h. Excessive movement of cable/terminus relative to interconnectingdevice,
i. Degradation of cable/connector optical transmission characteristics.
