FOCIS 17 presents the intermateability standard for connectorswith the commercial designation MU, and is issued as an addendum toTIA/EIA 604, Fiber Optic Connector IntermateabilityStandards. The provisions of TIA/EIA 604 apply to thisdocument.
Objective
Intermateability standards define the minimum physicalattributes of mating connector components. Fully dimensionedcomponents are not within the scope or intent of FOCIS 17.
The requirements in FOCIS 17 have been selected with theobjective of ensuring that any combination of plugs and adaptersconforming to the requirements of FOCIS 17 will mechanicallyintermate, and that intermated connector assemblies will meet theircommon level of performance.
The common level of performance of an intermated connectorassembly is the least demanding set of performance requirements inthe separate performance specifications of each of the products inthe assembly; see TIA/EIA 604.
