This document defines the stage-2 service description for the IPMultimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS), which includes theelements necessary to support IP Multimedia (IM) services. ITU-TRecommendation I.130 [4] describes a three-stage method forcharacterisation of telecommunication services, and ITU-TRecommendation Q.65 [3] defines stage 2 of the method.
This document does not cover the Access Network functionality orIP Connectivity Access Network aspects except as they relate toprovision of IM services. These aspects are covered in thenormative Annex E.
This document identifies the mechanisms to enable support for IPmultimedia applications. In order to align IP multimediaapplications wherever possible with non-IMS IP applications, thegeneral approach is to adopt non- IMS specific IP basedsolutions.
