The first edition of the Model Drainage Manual was published in1991. This second edition of the manual was produced incooperation with the Transportation Research Board, NationalCooperative Highway Research Program. This edition containsupdated procedures and uses metric units.
This comprehensivedrainage manual provides guidance on most aspects of highwaydrainage. Design theories, concepts, manuals, policies andprocedures are condensed and written for use by the designer.Where appropriate, relevant existing AASHTO guidelines aregiven and/or referenced. The manual has been developed togive the designer a basic working knowledge of hydrology andhydraulics complete with example problems. All basic designelements are included so that the designer can design highwaydrainage with minimal assistance.
The manual is organized in thefollowing chapters:
(1) Introduction; (2) Legal Aspects; (3) Policy;(4) Documentation; (5) Planning and Location; (6) Data Collection;(7) Hydrology; (8) Channels; (9) Culverts; (10) Bridges; (11)Energy Dissipators; (12) Storage Facilities; (13) Storm DrainageSystems; (14) Pump Stations; (15) Surface Water Environment;(16) Erosion and Sediment Control; (17) Bank Protection; (18)Coastal Zone; (19) Construction; (20) Maintenance of DrainageFacilities; and (21) Restoration. The Appendix contains aGlossary.
This new 2000 Metric Edition of the Model Drainage Manual combines the 1999 Metric Edition and Appendices 7-E on “Wetland Hydrology, the Water Budget” and 15-G on “Wetland Creation and Restoration.”
