This paper discusses a few critical factors and their effects onhigh speed gear transmissions. The first factor is centrifugalforce and its effect on tooth root strength, tooth expansion andbacklash and the interference fit between gear and shaft. Thesecond is system dynamics, including critical speed, dynamicbalancing and the torsional effects of flexible couplings. Thethird is the windage loss with different combinations of helix androtation direction, lubricant flow rate, flow distribution andtheir effects on tooth bulk temperature field and tooth thermalexpansion.
