This paper describes a comprehensive study of the novel geardesign with physical separation between sliding and rolling motionsof the mesh gear contact point. The sliding motion is accommodatedby shear deformation of a thin-layered rubber-metal laminateallowing very high compression loads. Several important advantageswill be presented when comparing the composite gear design to theconventional involute profile.
