Speed reducers incorporating cycloidal technology as theirprimary reduction mechanism have always been active topics ofresearch given their unique trochoidal tooth profile. A cycloidalreducer is recognized for its strength andmainly studied forrotational performance improvement. Nowadays, this study can beperformed by digital prototyping, which has become a valuable toolfor simulating exact scenarios without experimenting on actualmodel.

This paper discusses the stress distribution, modeled in adynamic simulation environment, on the rotating parts of Cycloidalreducer. A three dimensional finite element model is developedusing Algor FEA commercial code to simulate the combined effect ofexternal loading and dynamic as well as inertial forces onone–cycloid disc system. This model utilizes surface–to–surfacecontact to define interaction between rotating parts of the reducerassembly. The results are analyzed for the variation in stress anddeformation with respect to time for a certain simulation period. This study gives an insight of internal load sharing of rotatingparts and their capability of carrying shock loads.
