This Standard Practice is intended for mud pump gearing only andshould not be applied to any other type of oilfield equipment.
It may be applied to mud pumps of any size and rating.
It imposes certain stipulations from Standard AGMA 420.03,”Helical and Herringbone Gear Speed Reducers and Increasers”.
Ratings are based on surface durability (which is independent ofpitch). The surface durability rating practice differs fromStandard AGMA 211.01, “Surface Durability of Helical andHerringbone Gears”, in the following respects:
a) The new Fi curve was developed by theOilfield Gearing Committee;
b) Gear and pinion materials are limited to steel cut after heattreating and to combinations using gears of 300 Brinell or lowerhardness;
c) Nodular iron gears. See paragraph 3.2.
