It is shown that neither Hertz’s line contact theory nor hispoint contact theory are entirely adequate for the accuratecalculation of contact stresses in gear teeth. A numericalprocedure is described, which can be used to find the contactstress in cases where the relative curvatures in the contact regionare not constant.
