The PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) is able tomeasure (calibrate) master gears for industry traceable to nationalgear standards and in compliance with the International System ofUnits (SI).
For this purpose primary gear standards and standard measuringdevices for the reference valuesFa, Fß, Fp (total profiledeviation, total helix deviation, total cumulative pitch deviation)being available.
To calibrate the master gears of industry, PTB mostly usescoordinate measuring machines (CMMs) which are traceable byinstrument-specific calibration methods. In addition, with the aidof the PTB’s primary standards, a task specific uncertainty ofmeasurement is determined for all gearing calibrations carried outfor industry, which is taken into account as correction value whenthe transfer measurement uncertainty is stated.
