This specification defines the requirements for corrosionresistant steel externally threaded fasteners procured under partnumbers listed on drawings which refer to this specification.Typically, these fasteners are used for tension, shear, andtension-fatigue applications where 160 KSI Ftu and 95 KSI Fsu isdesired with a service temperature capability to 1,000ºFunplated.
Requirements stipulated in purchase contracts, purchase orders,part standards and/or part drawings shall take precedence overrequirements stated herein. Receiving contractors may reject anylot which does not conform.
The specification includes mechanical property requirements forthree classes of fasteners, Types I, II and III, and three classesof thread lengths Long Thread, Mid thread and Short Thread.
Type I – Tension head (hex, double hex, etc.) without a recessdrive (i.e. NAS6703-6720)
Type II – 100º Full flush head, long or short thread (i.e.NAS1580C)
Pan head. long or short thread (i.e. NAS1578C)
Fillister head, long or short thread (i.e. NAS1121E-1128E)
Full thread (threaded to the head) (i.e. NAS1802)
Type III – 100º Reduceti flush head, long or short thread (i.e.NAS1581C)
Workmanship of fasteners shall be in conformance with aircraftfastener manufacturing processes.
Recommendations for improvements or corrections to thisspecification should be directed to an NASG representative of ausing company or to the Executive Secretary of the NationalAerospace Standards Committee.
Specifications listed herein, of the issue in effect on date ofinquiry, are a part of this specification to the extent indicated.In the case of conflict, the requirements herein shall takeprecedence.
Should a using company require qualification testing for anyproduct specifying this document, a report for the specific productand product diameter shall be generated by the product manufacturerfrom product of sufficient shank and thread lenqth to yieldinspection and test data for all requirements in TABLE I includingtests categorized as not mandatory. Inspection and test data shallbe generated in accordance with the prescribed test methods,utilizing the sampling plan specified for a twentyfive (25) piecemanufacturing lot and submitted by the product manufacturer to theproduct user.
Unless otheiwise specified, part inventory manufactured toprevious revisions of the applicable drawing or specification maybe procured and used until stock is depleted.
