W/D NO S/S
Purpose and Scope. The purpose of this standard is toprovide a common basis on which protective coatings (paints) forthe surfaces of light water-moderated nuclear reactor containmentfacilities may be compared and selected by reproducible evaluationtests. Under the environmental conditions of nuclear reactorcontainment facilities, encompassing thermal Pressurized WaterReactors (PWR’s) and Boiling Water Re-actors (BWR’s), coating maydeteriorate by exposure to nay one, all, or a combination of, thefollowing conditions: ionizing radiation, contamination byradioactive nuclides and sub-sequent decontamination processes, chemical and water sprays, high-temperature, high-pressure steam, and abrasion or wear.
This standard specifically applies to the interior surfaces ofthe containment for PWR’s and of the primary containment for BWR’sand to all equipment contained therein. The standard covers coatingapplied to only the following materials: carbon steel, stainlesssteel, zinc-coated (galvanized) steel, aluminum, concrete, andmasonry.
It is intended that this standard be incorporated inspecifications, by reference, on the basis of userrequirements.
