Purpose: There are many methods of providing data for use insimulation—Chart Driven Models (CDM), source code, binary code, andprinted format. This report deals with data provided in the form ofchart driven models and/or source code that will be used for thegeneration, maintenance, and update of training devices.
This report sets forth the general philosophy and basic guidancefor designing, generating, and supplying this data for trainingpurposes. It is expected that this report will promote mutualunderstanding among those parties concerned with the use of thisdata in training devices.
Aircraft and equipment manufacturers may provide data in thisform to take advantage of chart driven models and/or source codegenerated during aircraft or component development.
This document is intended to help with the supply, integration,and support of this type of data and to lay out requirements forsuppliers. This document does not apply to the provision of binaryformat software which is covered in ARINC Report441: Guidelines for the Supply of Binary Format Softwarefor Training Purposes or other formats covered by theIATA: Flight Simulator Design and Performance DataRequirements.
Use of ARINC Report 441 is recommended for anynew aircraft program, or retrofit of a system to an existingaircraft, where intellectual property and/or export control limitthe supply of chart driven models and source code to trainingdevice manufacturers and operators. Aircraft manufacturers andelectronic equipment designers are encouraged to take advantage ofthis guidance information at the earliest possible phase ofaircraft design.
The terms portable electronic data and portable electronicformat will be used in this report to cover the provision of chartdriven models and/or source code for training devices.
