This document describes the aircraft industry recommendationsfor a headset with integral boom microphone suitable for pilot usein all types of aircraft using conventional radio installations.This document, ARINC Characteristic 535B, is in addition to anddoes not supersede the older ARINC Characteristic 535A: LightweightHeadset and Boom Microphone, dated March 3, 1972.
Microphones and headsets of many design variations are widelyused by the pilot community with satisfactory performance. Thisdocument does not prescribe a particular design, nor does it implythat the standards outlined herein constitute the onlycharacteristics of a satisfactory headset and microphone. Headsetproviders are encouraged to develop innovative products that meetand exceed customer expectations.
It is recognized that loudspeakers are widely used in modernflight decks. This ARINC Standard does not address the installationand use of loudspeakers.
