Purpose
This document. sets forth the basic requirements for an InertialNavigation System which provides sensor and steering computationspecifically designed for installation in commercial transport-typeaircraft . This system employs inertial sensing techniques andprovides outputs for aircraft attitude, present position, andsteering signals suitable for operating the pilots instruments andthe INS Display Unit. The basic INS System provides competeself-contained horizontal navigation capability intended to serveas the sole means of navigation on a world-wide basis.
This document is intended to provide design guidance for thedevelopment. and installation of INS Systems in installationsprimarily intended for airline use. As such, this guidance willinclude the specific requirements necessary to provide theoperational capability and standardization of equipment andinstallations deemed necessary by the airlines
