Purpose: This document is intended to set forth the basicrequirements for a new generation ILS receiver specificallydesigned for installation in all types of commercial transportaircraft.
The intent of this document is to provide general and specificdesign guidance for the development and installation of an ILSreceiver primarily for airline use. As such, this guidance willinclude the specific requirements necessary to provide the desiredoperational capability and the standards necessary to achieveinterchangeability.
Equipment manufactures should note that this document aims toencourage them to produce maintenance-free, high performance radiosrather than equipment of minimal weight and dimensions. They are atliberty to accomplish this objective by means of design techniquesthey consider to be the most appropriate, as their airlinecustomers are interested primarily in the end result rather thanthe means employed to achieve it.
