Objectives/Scope
This standard provides considerations for the procurement anddesign requirements of TE to be used for maintenance andtroubleshooting of air transport components in both the shop and/orflight line environment.
Although the term TE is used, this standard can be applied toother types of support equipment utilized in the aviation industry,such as shop data loaders, portable maintenance aids, etc.
Purpose
This standard is intended to give a general overview and designrequirements regarding Test Equipment (TE) to the componentmanufacturers and the TE industry from the airline perspective.
This standard is one of a family of ARINC Standards whichaddress component test and maintenance processes. These standardshave been developed to provide the best practices to the airtransport industry.
This standard, which was first published in May 1981, has beenupdated to reflect the collective experience of the air transportindustry over many years to account for the changing aviationtechnology and regulatory environment. It is not intended that thisstandard provide the elements of a “form, fit, and function”specification, but to provide guidance for a better design andoperation of testers.
Today’s test equipment designs are typically of modular nature,i.e., the test equipment manufacturer generally selects andintegrates subassemblies from the marketplace.
This standard will help to ensure that critical product lifecycle requirements regarding design, support, and obsolescencemanagement are identified and available to all.
An industrial constellation of more or less decoupled supportelements has to be transformed into a scenario with sufficientoverlap of critical functions. This will facilitate successful andcost-effective support over the product life cycle.
