PURPOSE OF THIS REPORT
Introduction
Aircraft equipment (hardware and/or software) comprises animportant component of the simulation used in modern aircrafttraining devices. To optimize the efficiency of training sessions,the operation of aircraft equipment in these training devices willoften need to allow for different procedures as opposed to thoseused in the aircraft.
This report sets forth the general philosophy and basic designguidance for using aircraft equipment (hardware and/or software) intraining devices. It specifies unique simulator functions thatshall be supported by this equipment. A goal of this report is topromote common understanding between aviation and simulation groupsfor the use of aircraft equipment in training devices.
Use of this document is recommended for any new or derivativeaircraft or retrofit of a system to an existing aircraft, whereaircraft hardware or software may be used in the associatedtraining device. Airframe manufacturers and aircraft equipmentdesigners are encouraged to take advantage of this guidanceinformation, starting in the earliest phases in the design ofaircraft equipment by defining requirements to be compliant withthe simulator functions capabilities; i.e., to be compliant withthis report. Compliance can be most readily assured if provided forin the proposal stage between the aircraft manufacturer and theaircraft equipment supplier.
ARINC Report 610, 610B, and 610C
For ease of reading and use by the reader, the authors have usedARINC 610 when describing applicable concepts, e.g., functions,processes, etc. All references to ARINC 610 are intended toreference the latest version of the 610 standard, in this caseARINC Report 610C.
