Purpose of this Document
ARINC Specification 628 defines general architectural philosophyand specific design guidance for the proper installation andinterface of various cabin equipment. Consistency with ARINCSpecification 628 allows each respective piece of equipment tooperate in concert when integrated with other relevant cabin typeequipment.
ARINC Specification 628, Part 2, defines standards electricaland mechanical interfaces of the In-Flight Entertainment System(IFES) equipment associated with the seat. These equipment consistof the Headphones, Passenger Control Unit (PCU), Seat Video Display(SVD), Personal Video Player (PVP), Telephone Handset (includingthe Cord), and the Seat Electronics Box (SEB). Appropriatedefinitions are also provided for other electrical devicesassociated with the seat contour/position mechanism. The intent isto make this specification more useful for effectively integratingall the components of the seat. The related seat contour/positionequipment consists of the Seat Control Unit (SCU), Seat ActuatorController (SAC), and seat actuator motor(s).
A generic block diagram of a passenger seat equipped with theIFES and seat control equipment is shown in Attachment 1 – SeatInterfaces Block Diagram. Each component may perform its basicfunction or operate as a multi-function unit. For example, thetelephone handset may also be used to control video games, or asingle enhanced unit may perform the functions of both the PCU andthe SCU.
